He has the potential for greatness in the future, more importanty you push Yun Yun and Xiao Yan together, even a blind old man can see there is something going on between the two of them, if they are together it can only bring benefits to your Yun Lan sect. He did win the Alchemist competition, which would also add to the prestige and reputation of Yun Lan sect and allow access to more alchemist pills!!

No more sad Yun Yun, you might get little Xiao Yun or little Yun Yan, no more destructive Xiao Yan, you get to live, your sect gets to survive and everyone is happy, everyone win win

Maybe there's some sort of (for now at least) hidden motivation. Because Yunshan did appear to have some sort of history with Xiao Yan's family, which seemed evident when Yunleng initially told him Xiao Yan was the son of.

I dont recall anything about it from the novel that there was a history between Yun Lan sect and the Xiao Family but there is a definite connection after Xiao Yan leaves for Jia Nan academy in terms of the Hall of Soul's involvement
the Hall of Souls was involved with the Yun Lan sect, whether this was ongoing or started after Xiao Yan rekts Yun Lan sect's reputation is not specified in the novel, at least from what I can recallbut seeing Xiao Yan's father was kidnapped when Yun Leng and the elders was pursuing him, it would strongly hint that there is some connection there

I'm pretty sure the hall of souls helped Yun Shan level up which is why that connection is there. It wouldnt surprise me if they hall of souls and yun lan sect had a connection before that due to their bad reputation which helped Mo Cheng become how he was.

Yeah given the willingness of Yun Lan sect to accept the help of Hall of Souls to boost their elders to "fake" Dou Huangs and Dou Wangs and the "perfect" timing of the kidnapping of Xiao Yan's father it not surprise me if there was a connection, afterall Yun Lan sect been the number one power house for a long time

I wouldnt say it was perfect timing for the kidnapping because of in episode 6 of these specials, the hall of souls member said he enjoyed teasing Yun Yun to Yun Shang after she left. So with that in mind, he may have known Yunleng's temperament from listening in on previous conversations and would cause him to do something so followed him. Maybe he was even there when/if Yunleng reported to Yun Shang about the loss of prestige due to Xiao Yan and watched him request to go to their home to capture his father and so followed him. These are just theories though as it wasnt really shown in the episode.

Guess what? I downloaded the episode and didnt watch it LOL think the reason was cause I knew it would be a sad episode with what happens to Xiao Yan's father and his family

Finally watched it and yes there is a connection between Yun Lan sect and Hall of Souls seems like the relationship between the two are very good and established for a long time with the casual bantering like two old friends

For the most part they are following the novel rather closely, of course there are some fillers (Medusa buying shoes) and some changes (like what you said about Yun Shan hinting about the Xiao family) but the majority of the donghua still follows the novel, the reason why I mentioned the manhua is that it is also based on the novel but targeted at the younger audience
For example a big change from the manhua is Medusa's pregnancyin the manhua due to excessive Qi it causes Xiao Yan some funny weird thing that causes Medusa to be pregnant in the novel however Xiao Yan actually loses control and consciousness and is possessed by his pure instincts, warning big big spoiler aheadhe then rapes Medusa
I prefer the novel over the manhua mainly cause, it is the original source

There are a lot of users on here who drop spoilers and dont even care about if other people can see it or not, in fact I would even go as far as to say they want them to see it. I'm sure that person who dropped it will come back anyway because the adverts for this show are really good at drawing in people.

Also, I'm also hoping either the next side story Yuan Qi, or season 5 Nian Fan comes out too but we wont know until the week after this when they start airing some of the new shows. If not then, then maybe later in the year for the second side story.

Long answer read spoilers below:

Someone else reaches Dou Di before Xiao Yan it was the Hun Clan's (one of the eight ancient clans) patriarch, Hun Tiandi, Xiao Yan reaches Dou Di and manages to defeat him after becoming the number one Heavenly Flame (absorbing all the Heavenly flames just like the last Dou Di over 10,000 years ago, who himself is actually a Heavenly flame originally) but it wasnt enough Xiao Yan self-destructs and kills Hun Tiandi. they are a Dou Di both souls are still alive, and so Xiao Yan uses all his flames to refine Hun Tiandi's soul until he dies, which will take a long long time

After Xiao Yan refines a body for himself and lazily rests his head on Xun'Er's lap while being fed fruit and he kisses her to his son's protests telling him that he will tell Medusa-mother he is bullying his mother
Xiao Yan then asks Xun'Er if she ever wondered why there isnt any more Dou Di after the last one over 10,000 years ago and why isnt there a single one left on Dou Continent since they live for a long time as Dou Di and they are almost impossible to kill He then tells Xun'Er to wait for a few days and he will have an answer
Half a year later, at the Sky Mansion Alliance headquarters Xiao Yan tears open a tunnel with his Qi, and Original Qi came flowing out, at that point Xun'Er's father Gu Yuan and someone else (wont spoil this one cause this person is related to someone that you will see in season 5) felt their strength which was stagnant for thousands of years started to increase and they felt if they entered the tunnel it will allow them to reach Dou Di
That was the end of the actual novel however there were a couple of more chapters, epilogue Xiao Yan waits for Medusa and Xun'Er to reach Dou Di before embarking on a journey through the tunnel with them and Gu Yuan and one more person, but not before leaving behind behind Original Qi for his children, Xiao Xiao and Xiao Lin, and one other person (who you will see in season 5) related to the person mentioned above, however in another novel, considered as a sequel of sort, Da Zhu Zai the author retconned and had the children going with him He is a minor character though, either a remake or second season of it will be made in 3D will be made by the same studio as this one

Let's just say it is bittersweet

The next episode will show that they somewhat reconciled, but Xiao Yan's return to destroy and kill Yun Shan, did put a big dent to a full reconciliation, they do end up going their separate ways but not before a very very long kiss
they do reconcile after a meeting in the Central Continent, when Xiao Yan goes and help her with becoming the Flower Sect sect leader (he actually saves her a couple of times) but by that time, he is married to Medusa and involved with Xun Er, though they dont friendzone each other, the romance, feelings and love is still there, at the end of the novel Xiao Yan invites her to return to Jia Ma empire and live with him at Wu Tang city

Honestly feel that from the spoilers I've read and what I've seen so far that even if he marries Medusa and Xun'Er him and Yun Yun are the otp for me, the other two it feels like he married more out of duty, I stand to be corrected as I have not read the novel. I know with Medusa he did marry her because of what he did but I'm curious to see how theinvolved with Xun'Er is played out and looks like on the donghua. His relationship at the beginning felt more brotherly toward her even though she has feelings for him. But anyway, I'm just disappointed he won't end up with Yun Yun. Need to get over it

That is correct, with Medusa at first it is because of an obligation of what she did for his family, his Yan Alliance but most importantly his heart melted for her when he met his daughter for the first time, and he was attracted to the seductive and alluring nature of Medusa's aura, while Medusa started when she got pregnant.
With Xun'Er, they are childhood sweethearts, although it isnt an obvious boyfriend/girlfriend relationship, but from what was being said it is already there. You only need to look at Xiao Yan's father in season one where he warns him about being cautious around Xun Er and Yao Lao keeps teasing him about his "girlfriend" Xiao Yan does get jealous when male students kept pestering her by stating he is trash and she belongs to them while at Jia Nan academy
Although not stated in the donghua and it is also a forgotten aspect of Xiao Yan in the novel, he originated from Earth, smart and died young, when he reincarnated to the current world, he was born with full awareness of his previous life, in other words he was an adult in a baby's body. When he was young, he would sneak into Xun'Er's bedroom to use his Qi in order to warm Xun'Er due to her illness, in the hopes she will get better. this involved him touching all over her body (yes Xiao Yan is a pervert) it was at this time Xun'Er started to fall in love with him
